Why do you do quest? so that you can continue building your countryside, maybe surpassing the obvious size limit that games like Carcassonne have. This is a design choice I really like, as it stops the game from becoming to simple but dodges worrying about points at the end of it all.

But before you can panic about your previous decisions, the game introduces quest tiles, which replenish your tile limit on completion.

You only have so many tiles left to place, the game says. Then out of nowhere a tile limit is introduced. Slowly your single tile grows and grows into a countryside. Questions like “Would this field look good when placed next to this tree line?” fill a pleasant space in your mind, and let you fall away from any worry or excess thoughts. It’s music is calming, and at first all the tiles you place are based on their aesthetic purpose. However, unlike some of those more strategic board games, Dorfromantik goes for a very Zen approach. Dorfromantik is a strategy and puzzle game by Toukana studios that follows in the tradition of tile laying board games like Carcassonne. Timberborn is scheduled for early access in Q1 2021 on steam and gog.ĭorfromantik – Now this is a game that you can play with one brain cell, but will be rewarded by playing with more. But for the smarties out there, play this demo and keep an eye out for when it releases. As I said, I’m bad at this type of game and normally thrive on games that only take one brain cell like Kingdom Hearts, Ratchet and Clank, and World of Warcraft. And finally, this game is not afraid at all to kill your beavers, as it did to mine several times. The building and road system seems versatile and incredibly precise for that player out there that wants their city to be perfectly layed out. The art is simple, but defined enough for you to enjoy looking at the adorable beavers go about their lives. The music is calming and perfect for this sort of game. Timberborn is a city-building game made by a polish team known as Mechanistry, and in it you play as hyper intelligent beavers that are capable of human level engineering, such as setting up waterwheels to generate power.
