It is written in Java with Swing libraries, so it runs on Linux, BSD, Windows, Mac OS, and anything else that supports Java. tinyMediaManager is an open source media management tool that generates video file metadata for media players like Kodi formerly XBMC, and other clients that use the same metadata schema. TinyMediaManager is an excellent cross-platform media manager. tinyMediaManager will also allow you to further personalize your collection by renaming both movies and their respective folders, making the organization quick and easy.

If anyone needs more information, please ask. I consider this to be a separate issue, but noting it for completeness. However, some times, they aren't used and it's unclear where Plex gets its poster. The thumbnail link in the NFO and the locally stored poster.ext both use the correct image.Movies do not always use the correct movie poster.Presumably, since XBMCnfoMoviesImporter is the agent, TMDB is not subsequently queried for missing plot information either.XBMCnfoMoviesImporter does not "use plot instead of outline".tMM is saving both plot and outline to the NFO.Collections do not have a summary in the NFO file.I have not tried the other directory approach that seems to be a Kodi implementation.tMM is configured to save the movieset-poster.ext into the movie directory.Plex collections get the generated mosaic poster.Collections do not add the movieset-poster.ext as the collection poster. This is a minor thing for me, but it's noted as it could be impacting the expected results.I believe this is a known issue (with tMM?), but I can't find the link again.Collections are created without the " Collection" string.Everything here seems to generally work.Īlthough XBMCnfoMoviesImporter and tMM appear to work, once I add the results to a new, test Plex library, problems become apparent: This is an impressive little tool and I think I have the the configuration where I want it.

I recently learned of tMM to ease the creation of the NFO files and collect other additional goodies. XBMCnfoMoviesImporter configuration does not "disable local media support". So far, I have only used the movies importer and it feels quite clunky. There appear to be two primary NFO importers used by the Plex community: XBMCnfoMoviesImporter and XBMCnfoTVImporter for movies and TV shows, respectively. Embedded metadata, while ideal, is more difficult to leverage from a practical perspective. The only solution to this, that I'm aware of, is leveraging NFO files or some other sidecar approach. Nor do I want my home movie metadata to be trapped in the Plex database. Plex has been rebuilt enough times to know that I do not wish to do this again. This includes commercial content and home movies. I know there are lots of places to ask, but hopefully this community is most familiar with the output and configuration of tMM and whether it can achieve this goal.Īs a TL DR, will the above combination of tools produce automated collection creation with assigned posters? Should it also add a plot/outline/summary to the collection?įor additional details, I have a decent sized Plex database with multiple movie and TV styled libraries. However, Plex + XBMCnfoMoviesImporter + tMM still did not equal success as the collection posters were not added.

I have been searching for solutions on how to manage collections within Plex and tinyMediaManager (tMM) finally seems to be the missing piece.
